A lot has changed in Clinton in the last 21 years. Businesses have come and gone, as have some of the buildings. However, located at 28 Albert Street is a business that has been flourishing for over two decades – Crossroads. Owner, Marilyn Tyndall’s father had worked in retail most of his life, so it came naturally for Tyndall to open her own store in 1989.

As a home decor and giftware store, Crossroads is constantly changing – with new products, styles and colours. A recent addition to giftware is a new collectable line from Bradford Exchange. Crossroads carries products that otherwise may not be available in Clinton, including, garden décor, and a selection of sterling silver jewellery made with Swarvoski crystal. “It’s very affordable for yourself or as a gift,” says Tyndall of the Annaleece jewellery, which is one of her favourite products. Another one of her favourites is children’s clothing, “We’ve always carried baby gifts, we just expanded a bit,” she says. She also has a great selection of books for children and adults alike. You’ll notice some of Alice Munroe’s works as well as top sellers like The Vampire Diaries – great for reading on a lazy Sunday or as a bedtime story and all of them make for great gifts.

An assortment of greeting cards is located at the back of the store – all of which Tyndall personally selects. “I probably have one of the best selections of cards in Huron County.” You will be able to find a greeting card for every occasion.

The most popular product at Crossroads is a purse organizer called Pouchee. Tyndall says they have been flying off the shelves. They come in lots of different colours and go with any outfit.

As you walk past Crossroads, you will see gardening urns and other garden decor on the side walk. Tyndall says the majority of those products are either made locally or in Canada.

Some of Tyndall’s customers come from London. She is also seeing more local people, who used shop in the city, coming into her store. They’ve decided to shop at the local stores for more selection and unique products. To keep those customers coming back, Tyndall gives the most helpful and personable service possible. She will special order items you may be looking for and offers gift wrapping service too. Often times, she helps her customers find the right gift when they just don’t know what to choose. Crossroads also has a bridal registry.

Tyndall believes there has been lack of communication between businesses and consumers in Huron County. “Talk to the business owners,” she says, “If there is something you want and they can bring it in for you, that’s going to help them and you because your area is going to thrive more.” Tyndall looks forward to seeing her community and its businesses continuing to succeed. She is also realistic about shopping local, “There are some things you can’t find in Huron County. But when you do go out of the area, you have to remember that what you can get around here, you do.”

Home décor and garden accessories, books, children’s clothing, greeting cards, jewellery and accessories, – Crossroads has it all. Crossroads is located at 28 Albert Street in Clinton.
