HBDC

The Huron Business Development Corporation (HBDC) is a federally supported not-for-profit Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC), governed by volunteers in partnership with FedNor. Launched in 1993, HBDC is one of over 260 CFDCs located throughout rural Canada.  Like all CFDC’s, the mandate is to help strengthen and diversify the local economy by fostering strategic community planning and socio-economic development; delivering a range of business counseling and information services; providing access to capital to assist small and medium sized enterprises; and supporting community-based projects and special initiatives.

Since inception in 1993, HBDC has invested close to $16 million in economic development throughout Huron County, helped over 1,600 businesses launch or expand their operations and created over 6,500 jobs for local residents.  As a result, HBDC has garnered an international reputation for excellence in the field of economic development acknowledged by 23 national, provincial and regional awards to date.

CKNX Group of Radio Stations

For over 80 years CKNX Radio has been serving the residents of Huron, Perth, Wellington, Bruce and Grey.

In an area of the province not served by a daily newspaper CKNX has played an important role in keeping dozens of communities linked. It was part of the vision of W.T. “Doc” Cruickshank when he built the first radio transmitter in his Wingham shop from an article in Popular Mechanics in February 1926.

Over the years Midwestern Ontario residents have come to trust CKNX for the most in-depth coverage of news, sports, agriculture and weather. It is something we take very seriously and look forward to keeping for the next 80 years.
